Mazinger Z (マジンガーZ), known briefly as Tranzor Z in the United States, is a Japanese super robot manga series written and illustrated by Go Nagai(永井豪). The first manga version was serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Shōnen Jump from October 1972 to August 1973, and it later continued in Kodansha TV Magazine from October 1973 to September 1974. It was adapted into an anime television series which aired on Fuji TV from December 1972 to September 1974. threeA had been working for a lot of time on this project, which is done in collaboration with Go Nagai himself.

Since 1974, Mazinger Z has been made into hundreds of figures, the most enduring of which being the Chogokin. Constructed with die-cast and size, it became the standard bearer for such figures. With the advent of the Soul of Chogokin line in 1997, it was again Mazinger Z which ushered in the new line with improved size and articulation, all the while keeping the tradition of the chogokin alive. In the year 2012, a new Chogokin line is being brought up again with Mazinger Z, a Deluxe Soul of Chogokin. Sure, it seems like just another ploy to slap a DX in front of it, but this is truly a deluxe figure.

What makes this Mazinger Z so mandatory for a collection? Well, I'll just go out and say that this is possibly the best figure ever made of the iconic super robot. For starters, the DX SoC Mazinger Z is coming in at a foot tall. All of the armor plates are removable, which reveal an incredibly detailed inner mechanics and frame. You can even have it displayed as half-armor, half-inner details. The head and chest also contain LEDs, a Chogokin first, to simulate the start-up sequence, firing of the photon beams and Breast Fire. There is also the matter of a scale hanger to house it all in, which is also decorated with LEDs to further show off Mazinger Z.
