Since 1974, Mazinger Z has been made into hundreds of figures, the
most enduring of which being the Chogokin. Constructed with die-cast and
size, it became the standard bearer for such figures. With the advent
of the Soul of Chogokin line in 1997, it was again Mazinger Z which
ushered in the new line with improved size and articulation, all the
while keeping the tradition of the chogokin alive. In the year 2012, a
new Chogokin line is being brought up again with Mazinger Z, a Deluxe
Soul of Chogokin. Sure, it seems like just another ploy to slap a DX in
front of it, but this is truly a deluxe figure.
What makes this Mazinger Z so mandatory for a collection? Well, I'll
just go out and say that this is possibly the best figure ever made of
the iconic super robot. For starters, the DX SoC Mazinger Z is coming in
at a foot tall. All of the armor plates are removable, which reveal an
incredibly detailed inner mechanics and frame. You can even have it
displayed as half-armor, half-inner details. The head and chest also
contain LEDs, a Chogokin first, to simulate the start-up sequence,
firing of the photon beams and Breast Fire. There is also the matter of a
scale hanger to house it all in, which is also decorated with LEDs to
further show off Mazinger Z.
